ISTQB® Academia Dossier
ISTQB® is committed to promoting a close relationship with Academia, so that we nurture an open international community, sharing knowledge, ideas, and innovations in software testing.
One way to foster the partnership with the Academia Network is to share some good practices already in place. The Academia Dossier is a compilation of country wise showcase relationships developments in software testing field, including academic initiatives, academia linkages, case studies of industry impact etc.
The Dossier offers possibilities for other countries to adapt these good practices, and it is also a platform to collaborate as well.
Below you can find a description of some of those best-practices collaborations, illustrated by a Bar Chart, reporting on the level of collaboration with academia on variety of topics based on a sample of data from 9 countries, Israel, China, Portugal, Poland, Spain, India, Japan and Switzerland updated in Q2 2024.
The above initiatives are:
- Research Projects, Papers & Articles Companies partnering with academic institutions to conduct joint research projects. These projects explore cutting-edge technologies, address industry challenges, advance scientific knowledge, and innovations. Collaborating on authoring or co-authoring academic research papers and professional articles with academic views.
- Education Programs sharing teaching methods between Member Boards and Universities to promote software testing to students. Support professors to be ISTQB® certified and teach courses with the involvement of Academia. Cooperate with Prof’ on master & doctoral thesis on meaningful research work. Industry experts collaborate with academic faculty and contribute to update, shape, and align the curriculum & syllabi with the latest industry requirements, ensuring students receive relevant education.
- Certifications enabling special discount programs for students & academia affiliates to acquire professional certifications using ISTQB® scheme & exams.
- Internship and Training Programs Industries offer internships and training opportunities to students and researchers, allowing them to gain practical experience and exposure to real-world problems.
- Additional collaborative activities between industry and academia.
- Conferences, Seminars and Workshops Academic institutions and industry experts frequently organize workshops, seminars, and conferences to share knowledge and expertise, discuss emerging trends, present research findings, exchange ideas and network.
- Technology Transfer, Consulting and Expertise Academic institutions transfer their developed technologies and intellectual property to the industry for commercialization and practical applications. Academics offer their specialized knowledge and consultancy services to the industry to address specific challenges and provide insights.
- Acknowledgements Awards for meaningful research work and/or most influencing people from the academia, perspectives from the academia joining the local ISTQB’s Member Board on honorary recognition. Promoting publications for knowledge sharing and a compilation of “Who is Who Directory” in academic departments promoting Software Testing. Industry professionals serve on advisory boards for academic programs or research centers, providing guidance and insights.
- Collaborative Innovation Centers and Grants Jointly established centers for innovation and research act as platforms for continuous collaboration between academia and industry. Jointly funding research projects through grants and industry-sponsored scholarships enabling larger and more comprehensive projects or research initiatives, encourage collaboration between academia and industry. Academic institutions establish incubators and provide support to start-ups, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
- Data Sharing and Access Companies may share datasets with researchers, allowing them to analyze and gain insights from real-world data.
